Scraping a vehicle
Documentation
- Download and fill out a Virginia DMV VSA 40 form (Section 1, 3, & 5) https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/vsa40.pdf
- Bring the Title. If the Car is 10 years or older we can buy the car without a title, however there is a $25 charge assessed by the DMV.
- If the car is being sold without a title, we are required to obtain a picture of the seller with a hand on the car.
- Trailers follow the same procedures
Preparation
- All preparation, other than tire removal, must be done prior to arriving.
- Remove the battery. We will buy it separately in the non-ferrous area.
- Drain the fuel tank and remove all the fluids. If you are not able to do this, there is a $25 processing/disposal fee. The fuel tank must have visible holes in the bottom of the tank to avoid this charge.
- Tires are charged at $5.00 each for standard passanger vehicles and must be attached to the vehicle. If tires are not attached we will not accept them.
- If you want to remove the tires, make sure you bring your own lug wrench.
- The inside of the car must be clean and free from debris or other scrap metal.
- Hybrids and Electric Vehicle batteries must have the batteries removed, and seller must be able to show visible proof.
